Emily Rensink
I am a 22-year-old undergraduate ceramics student striving for direction in my field. I chose clay as my medium for its sensual qualities and ability to be manipulated. The goblets, candlestick holders, and bowl are selected items from the dinner set, Designed for the Enemy. It combines the qualities of thrown objects with the constructive aspect of hand-built pieces. The work expresses the look of danger, through the use of decorative spikes, yet remains functional and pleasing to the eye. The blue, arch-shaped piece is Reliquary. This piece is entirely hand-built with slabs and cut strips. While designed to hold the ashes of the dead, the portal allows us to envision the spirit's escape. |
