The feminine body as visual language. The feminine body as silent messenger. The feminine body as lure. The feminine body as identity. These are the specific concerns in this current body of work. A feminist consciousness regarding women's work, materials, and spaces -- public and private -- permeates it. A nineties sensibility of the feminine combined with a humorous if not nostalgic look at the past adds perspective. It encompasses other cultures, past and present, emphasizing the continuity of the practice of body enhancement and its use as silent messenger. I play with notions of what is considered erotic and taboo along with notions of what is similarly erotic but considered benign and accepted. With some humor and light heartedness, I investigate the feminine. I attack it, poke fun at it, exaggerate it, and elevate it. Above all, I call it my own. | |
