FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -
Art group not a flash in the pan
Members of the Houston Women's Caucus for Art will FLASH! you at their 25th anniversary exhibit at The Foundry, an artists' building just north of downtown.
FLASH! is a one-day-only exhibit juried by Dr. Sarah Trotty, Associate Professor of Art at Texas Southern University.
Hazel Bartram-Birchenough, president of Houston Women's Caucus for Art (HWCA), said, "Some pieces chosen by Dr. Trotty are deep, some frivolous, and many are fabulously colorful. The watercolors are colossal in size and the sculpture soars."
FLASH! is generously underwritten by Blumenthal Sheet Metal, fabricators of large-scale metalwork for artists in Houston and across the nation.
The exhibit contains 40 pieces of art and includes sculpture, painting, textiles and mosaic.
FLASH! opens at noon on Saturday, October 4, 2003 and closes on the same day at 10 p.m.
Brief artists' talks begin at 5 p.m.
HWCA was founded in 1978. Over the course of its existence, HWCA has hosted a national conference, managed an art gallery, initiated hundreds of exhibits, and collaborated with other arts organization on projects large and small.
HWCA's 25th anniversary celebrates the organization's tenacity and flexibility in support of its artist members.
As always, proceeds from any art sales at the exhibit go primarily to the artist who created the work. HWCA's small commission supports future projects for its members.
The Foundry is located at 1712 Burrnet, an airy industrial building north of downtown that is home to many artists who live and work there. First-timers should check the map before starting out for the exhibit.
Directions can be found on HWCA's web site, www.artwomenhouston.org.
HWCA creates opportunities for art to be seen, evaluated and sold. All artists are invited to become members.
HWCA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
