The Circle

Insights experienced attending an Artist's Way Circle

Egilibility

Open to anyone who has attended or is attending an organized Artist Way Circle as described by the author, Julia Cameron, in her books The Artist's Way and The Vein of Gold. All work must be original and completed in the last two years.

Media and Specifications

Work in any media including installations, visual or oral presentations, sculpture and two-dimensional works. Performances must be documented for display during the exhibit. The Firehouse Gallery is used by poetry and other groups; therefore, space requirements differ from some venues. Sculpture and installations will be considered on an individual basis according to space requirements and gallery capability. Works should not be heavier or more cumbersome than can be lifted by two women. Work that differs greatly from the slide or written description may be rejected.

Presentation

Accepted artwork must be suitable framed or otherwise presented. Some pedestals are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Electronic works requiring display terminals or other equipment must be accompanied by proper accessories and must be installed by the artist.

Slides

Submit 35mm slides in standard mounts (cardboard or plastic). Label slides with name, title, medium, size, top and year. Slides of accepted work may be shown during the opening reception and will be returned when works are picked up, provided all fees have been paid at that time. Slides may be returned before July 5 if an extra SASE is enclosed with the entry. Presentations, installations and performances may be documented in writing. Books and other written materials must be suitably prepared for display.

Fees

A non-refundable fee of $15 is charged for each entry.

IN ADDITION, A $10 CHECK MADE PAYABLE TO HWCA MUST BE PRESENTED AT THE TIME WORKS ARE BROUGHT TO THE FIREHOUSE GALLERY. EXHIBITING ARTISTS WHO STAFF THE GALLERY FOR A MINIMUM OF TWO HOURS DURING THE EXHIBIT WILL HAVE THEIR CHECKS RETURNED TO THEM AT THE CLOSE OF THE EXHIBIT.


Acceptance

Every effort will be made to accept at least one piece from each artist who enters The Circle exhibit Artists are requested to provide black and white photographs of their work for publicity purposes.

Delivery of Accepted Works

After notification of acceptance, entries should be brought or sent prepaid to: HWCA, 1413 Westheimer, Houston, Texas 77006. Works must be received by June 1, 1997. No COD or bus deliveries will be accepted. Late or damaged shipments will be returned collect. Works must be shipped in substantial, reusable packing cartons and a check for return shipping must be enclosed.

Hand Deliveries

Works will be accepted at The Firehouse Gallery, 1413 Westheimer, Houston, Texas on Saturday, Mary 31 and Sunday, June 1 from 3-5 p.m. Alternative times for delivering work must be arranged by May 23.

Exhibition

June 7 through July 5
Saturday: noon to 5 p.m.
Sunday: noon to 4 p.m.
All accepted work must remain in the gallery until the close of the exhibit.

Liability

All reasonable care will be given to objects in the custody of The Firehouse Gallery; however, The Firehouse Gallery cannot assume responsibility for damage or deterioration incurred by causes beyond the gallery's control or during shipping, holding or removal.

Sales and Reproduction

HWCA charges a 20% commission on gallery sales. HWCA reserves the right to reproduce any artwork accepted for exhibit in publicity releases.

Return of Entries

Accepted work can be picked up at The Firehouse Gallery on July 6, 1997 between the hours of 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
